Description

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Assist in conducting speech and language evaluations under supervision.
  • Collect and document case history and background information from families and caregivers.
  • Use informal and formal assessment tools to identify communication needs.

Intervention and Therapy

  • Implement individualized speech and language therapy plans designed by senior therapists.
  • Facilitate sessions focusing on speech production, language comprehension, and social communication.
  • Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods, as needed.
  • Monitor and document progress to inform treatment adjustments.

Family and Caregiver Engagement

  • Collaborate with families to demonstrate strategies for improving communication at home.
  • Provide feedback on therapy progress and encourage family participation.

Team Collaboration

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and educators.
  • Attend team meetings to discuss client progress and coordinate services.
  • Seek guidance and mentorship from senior therapists and team members.

Program Support and Development

  • Assist in the preparation of materials and resources for therapy sessions.
  • Participate in group sessions or workshops aimed at enhancing social communication skills.
  • Contribute ideas to improve therapy approaches or group interventions.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of therapy sessions, assessments, and client progress.
  • Contribute to reports for internal use and family communication.

Professional Development

  • Engage in training and learning opportunities provided by the organisation.
  • Stay informed on evidence-based practices and developments in ASD intervention.
  • Actively seek feedback to refine skills and grow professionally.

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related field.
  • Eligible for registration with AHPC
  • Foundational knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related communication challenges.
  • Basic understanding of AAC tools and techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a desire to work with individuals with special needs.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to feedback.
  • Previous experience (internships or practicum) working with individuals with ASD is a plus but not required.
