Description
Assessment and Evaluation
- Assist in conducting speech and language evaluations under supervision.
- Collect and document case history and background information from families and caregivers.
- Use informal and formal assessment tools to identify communication needs.
Intervention and Therapy
- Implement individualized speech and language therapy plans designed by senior therapists.
- Facilitate sessions focusing on speech production, language comprehension, and social communication.
- Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods, as needed.
- Monitor and document progress to inform treatment adjustments.
Family and Caregiver Engagement
- Collaborate with families to demonstrate strategies for improving communication at home.
- Provide feedback on therapy progress and encourage family participation.
Team Collaboration
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and educators.
- Attend team meetings to discuss client progress and coordinate services.
- Seek guidance and mentorship from senior therapists and team members.
Program Support and Development
- Assist in the preparation of materials and resources for therapy sessions.
- Participate in group sessions or workshops aimed at enhancing social communication skills.
- Contribute ideas to improve therapy approaches or group interventions.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely records of therapy sessions, assessments, and client progress.
- Contribute to reports for internal use and family communication.
Professional Development
- Engage in training and learning opportunities provided by the organisation.
- Stay informed on evidence-based practices and developments in ASD intervention.
- Actively seek feedback to refine skills and grow professionally.
Job Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related field.
- Eligible for registration with AHPC
- Foundational knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related communication challenges.
- Basic understanding of AAC tools and techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a desire to work with individuals with special needs.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to feedback.
- Previous experience (internships or practicum) working with individuals with ASD is a plus but not required.
